Where a sport is carried out indoors, a premises licence must be obtained from the local council or a temporary events notice given. The type of sport is irrelavent - everything from a swimming gala to a darts match and a game of tiddlewinks could need permission if there is a profit being made or the event is staged to entertain the public. One of the most important criteria is whether the sport is 'indoors' - sports stadia with roofs that close, for instance, are not regarded as being 'indoors'.
